Preface Third Edition:

The Second Edition of the Applied Tribology was published nearly a decade ago. Since then, the book has been adopted for courses in many universities as has served as the basis for many short courses and lectures in industries. With great appreciation to many positive comments received, the Third Edition has expanded chapters on micro-contact of surface asperities, friction and wear, thermal effect, and elastohydro dynamic and mixed lubrication. Nearly all chapters have been revised with expanded sections, updates with an emphasis on new research and development, and many additional references. As in the previous editions, we strive to maintain a balance between application and theory.
