Antennas and Site Engineering for Mobile Radio Networks by Bruno Delorme pdf.

Preface of  Antennas and Site Engineering for Mobile Radio Networks by Bruno Delorme book:
The idea of writing this book in English occurred to me from observing that,  currently, there are no books available on the industrial antennas used in the infrastructures of mobile radio networks, even though the number of Web sites on antennas has been increasing throughout the world over the last several
years. According to one of the last censuses, there are 47,000 antenna sites in France, which correspond to a very considerable number of mobile radio networks.

It is necessary to know that these networks comprise not only the infrastructures of mobile phones managed by the cellular operators, but also all the private networks used by groups such as fire brigades, police forces, gendarmerie, railways, electric companies, gas companies, city halls, bus and tram companies, subway systems, taxi and ambulance companies, airports, harbors, and highway systems.

What Is Currently Available in the Bookstores?

Theoretical books with very few industrial applications;
Books on antennas, used since the beginning of broadcasting, for transmitting stations in long wave (LW), medium wave (MW), and shortwave (SW);
Books on antennas used in the HF band (2–30 MHz) for longdistance links (intercontinental links) of audio or data transmission;
Practical books for ham radio operators, essentially also in the HF band.

There is therefore a need to be able to find in bookstores a book devoted to:
Basic overviews on antennas and their applications to industrial antennas, which are installed on pylons of mobile radio networks in the VHF and UHF bands (from 34 MHz–2.2 GHz) for mobiles, and in the SHF and EHF bands for microwave links.
Engineering of antenna sites detailing the best way to install antennas (possibly multicoupling), and for the protection of receivers against interference frequencies created or induced on the sites.

This book, composed of three parts, thus meets these two expectations.

Part I: Antennas in Mobile Radio Networks

Chapter 1: “Fundamentals of Antennas.” How does an antenna radiate? Presentation of the characteristics of the electromagnetic wave.
Definition of antenna parameters, radiation intensity, polarization, directivity, isotropic and relative gain, input impedance, bandwidth, and aperture angle at half power.
Chapter 2: “Omnidirectional Vertical Wire Antennas.” Calculation of the characteristics of vertical omnidirectional wire VHF and UHF antennas (gain, radiation patterns, aperture angle . . .) for the dipoles and antennas with multiple dipoles. Examples of industrial antennas.
Chapter 3: “Panel and Yagi Antennas.” Calculation of the characteristics of directional wire antennas VHF and UHF: panel antennas, YAGI antennas. Examples of industrial antennas.

Part II: Antennas Site Engineering

Chapter 4: “Antenna Coupling.” Coupling of antennas between them on a pylon or on a terrace.
Chapter 5: “Antenna Coupling with Mast and Pylon.” Coupling antennas on a tubular mast or a pylon.
Chapter 6: “Cellular Networks: Antenna Tilt, Polarization Diversity, and Multiband on Panels.” Use of the directional panels in cellular networks: “Tilt,” Space diversity, Polarization diversity, multiband panels. Examples of industrial antennas.
Chapter 7: “Filters.” LC filters, microstrip line filters, coaxial cavity filters. Examples of industrial filters.
Chapter 8: “Coupling of Several Transceivers on the Same Antenna.” Coupling on one antenna of several transceivers. Examples of industrial couplers.
Chapter 9: “Study of the Radio Environment on Antenna Site, Measurements of the Spurious Frequencies, and Protection Against These Spurious Frequencies.”
Chapter 10: “Radiating Apertures Horn and Parabolic Antennas.”
Calculation of the characteristics of radiating apertures UHF and SHF: application to pyramidal horns and to parabolic antennas for Microwave links. Example of an industrial parabolic antenna.

Part III: Appendixes

This part includes a number of useful reminders:
Appendix A: Frequency bands in mobile radio networks
Appendix B: Vector calculus
Appendix C: Complex numbers
Appendix D: Electrostatics
Appendix E: Electromagnetism
Appendix F: Physics of vibrations
Appendix G: Transmission lines at high frequencies
Appendix H: Waveguides
I wrote this book for engineers and technicians working in mobile radio neworks, and for students. I did my best in the study of antennas (Part I) to use the complex numbers when possible, which allow one to add electric fields by making sums of vectors.
